These past clients stories serve to inspire you and remind you of the incredible capability the body has to heal itself, sometimes even after decades.
Crohn's disease onset shortly after his mother died when he was 16. Eight years of chronic abdominal pain, over a decade of medical treatment — nothing resolved it. His entire adult life was defined by limitation. Rather than trying to eliminate the pain, we leaned into it — its sensation, its emotion, its memory.
He had tried massage therapy before and been sent away mid-session for undesirable behaviour. Severely autistic, with deep anger rooted in school trauma — particularly around authority. He arrived agitated, and during the session there was swearing, aggression, and significant dysregulation. Rather than managing or suppressing it, we worked with it: safety words, regular breaks, and consistent debriefing so he understood what was happening in his body and felt in control throughout.
She had lost her period during chemotherapy two years prior and it had never returned. She had been in talk therapy both before and after her cancer diagnosis — dedicated work that had brought some relief, but never fully reached what was underneath. In our very first coaching session, she was safely guided to sit with the physical sensations of past traumatic experiences. It gave her a depth of access to her own experience that talk therapy had never been able to offer. She experienced huge emotional release.
A wrist injury at 16 ended a promising baseball career, leaving limited finger mobility and a nerve bundle that had persisted for nearly 30 years. He never played baseball again, not even for fun with his now 18 year old son. Working together with Thai massage and daily personalized yoga, we treated his injury as part of his entire body rather than as a local problem.
She came to me at 69, after years of talk therapy at different stages of her life — dedicated, consistent work that had brought insight into past traumas and emotional patterns, but never the feeling that things were truly resolved. Her goal was simple and profound: to finally find peace. Rather than thinking her way through her past, we let her listen to what her body still held.
Despite weekly physiotherapy after ankle joint replacement surgery, she had barely regained any mobility. Her nervous system was in chronic fight-or-flight. Within 15 minutes of Thai massage, I identified the pattern blocking her recovery: under any stress or pain, she reflexively lifted her toes — locking the ankle, tightening the IT band, compressing the hip flexor. No practitioner had identified this.
"The body speaks first in whispers. If we don't listen, it speaks in screams."
